The Retirement Committee of CEIRP is pleased to announce that as of January 1, 2023, the benefits of the Group Plan are being extended to family members who meet the following eligibility requirements for a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and/or a Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA):

  • To be eligible to open an RRSP, the family member must have earned income, has filed taxes in Canada, and must be at least 16 years of age to contribute more than $2,000 per year.
  • TFSA eligibility is based on age (they need to be at least 18 or the age of majority in their province), a resident of Canada, and have a valid social insurance number.

They can contribute to an RRSP until December 31 of the year they turn 71. They can contribute to a TFSA for as long as they want.

A Participating Plan Member wishing to have the benefits of the Group Plan extended to a Family Member will need to sign a Declaration naming the Family Member, which by definition will include a spouse, child, or parent.

Simply contact your Group Retirement Plan Administrator to request a copy of the Declaration form.
